i´m back....
it’s been a while, eh? lots has been going on – a new teacher for our school, my birthday, independence day on the 15th here in el salvador, my second trip to guatemala, one year in-country as a peace corps volunteer..... i feel as if time’s been flying, especially lately. i have some pictures of my birthday and the parades for independence day to put up, but i want to tell you all about my first for-real vacation in guatemala before i write about those things – even though those things came first. i guess mostly because it’s only been a couple days since i returned from amazing guatemala and everything i saw and did is still really clear and fresh in my mind. i’m gonna have to break it up though because there was so much to see and i took a ton of photos. so bear with me....i´ll get those entries in as soon as possible. you won’t be disappointed, i can almost guarantee it.....
anyway, thank you so much to those of you who responded to my e-mail about writing to congress about our peace corps living allowance. my faithful german friend in sunny california pointed out that the letter talks about our $45 raise, but then goes on to say that our living allowance will increase from $265 to $300, which is only a $35 raise. d´oh! i´m not even sure which we´re supposed to receive….i think it´s only $35 so that $45 should be changed to a $35. but it´s not a big deal if you already sent the letters out. we´ll see what happens!! i´m gonna be optimistic and believe that some day soon my banco cuscatlan account will have an extra $35 in it. so again, thanks again to EVERYONE!!!
and now for the most important news of all…..THE DETROIT TIGERS CLINCHED A PLAYOFF SPOT! huh? what planet am i on? i mean, obviously this happens when i´m nowhere near a baseball stadium, let alone one where the detroit tigers are playing. all i can do is sit here and monitor things from this ancient computer in the internet place i go to in apaneca. the internet place that is covered from floor to ceiling in soccer posters and where right at this very moment, two kids are rolling around on the floor while another kid rides a scooter around them. who´s gonna save some newspaper articles for me? anybody got a copy of the detroit free press?? anyone? i asked my dad to get me a t-shirt or something. i still haven´t gotten my beef jerky, so my hopes aren´t that high for a tigers t-shirt. did they make any that say they had the best record in baseball? they should have. that would´ve sold like hotcakes.
ok, i´m out for now. the next entries will be about guatemala and they will include some blurry photos of spider monkeys! how can you not look forward to that!?
